Happy 25th Anniversary to the Darke County Genealogical Society, Inc. !!!

Yes, we are celebrating this year! It is hard to believe that 25 years have passed since the late Toni
Seiler, who was then the director of the Historical Society's Garst Museum, put a notice in the local
papers to see if she could get a group of individuals together who would be interested in genealogy.
Not expecting a large group to show up, she was overwhelmed when 28 came in response to that first
notice. The group organized and the first dues were paid and officers elected on March 15, 1981.
Toni became the first President, Vern Nealeigh was Vice President, Susan Kendal was Secretary and
Lois Ann Baker was treasurer. The first Kindling came out a year later in February 1982 with Steve
Miller as Editor.

Toni's idea grew and now 25 years later that organization has over 300 members, published
numerous books, brings nationally known speakers to Darke County for their workshops, and
supports the genealogy libraries of Darke County. The Society continues to collect, preserve and
share the stories and family information of the hard working people of Darke County, Ohio.

To celebrate that beginning and share the accomplishments of the Society, we cordially invite all
current members, former members and friends of the Society to come to an anniversary open house
on Sunday, March 19, 2006 at Garst Museum, Greenville, Ohio, from 1 to 4 p.m., program to begin
at 2:00. Please note that the museum will be open free of charge. Please come and enjoy the
refreshments and an afternoon with friends.
