ABOUT THIS QUESTIONNAIRE

My name is Tamma Farra. Several years ago I began
to pursue an MA in Archives and Records Management
from Western Washington University. I also enjoy doing
genealogical research, and have now had experience on
“both sides of the counter”.

I’ve been curious and intrigued by what I have heard
archivists and genealogists saying about each other.
Through comments and stories I’ve heard, lectures I’ve
attended, and articles I’ve read, archivists and genealogists
seem to have some generalizations about each other that
aren’t always complimentary.

For my thesis, I want to explore what these issues are and
where they come from. Are some of these issues myths, or
are they realities, and if so, to what extent? It is my intention
to explore historical criticisms in this relationship and
determine if they continue to be an issue today. I will be using
two separate questionnaires: one for archivists and one for
genealogists.

This is where you come in. You have the experience and
knowledge that I am looking for. Your honesty and perspective
in answering these questions will be a vital part of my research.
Your participation is both needed and appreciated. This
questionnaire is anonymous and I will not use names in my paper.
However, in case I need clarification on some of your answers, it
would be helpful if you would attach your contact information at
the beginning of the questionnaire.

more room to write your response, please feel free to use the
sback side of the paper.

I truly do appreciate your time in answering these questions
because I know your day is busy and there are many things to do.
