Director wanted for Garst Museum

The Darke County Historical Society seeks a director to collaborate with the board of directors in leading the organization to implement its recently adopted strategic plan which has as its goal accreditation by the American Association of Museums. The historical society operates Garst Museum located in Greenville, Ohio, which is comprised of five interconnected buildings, and has a large collection of artifacts including significant collections relating to Annie Oakley, the Treaty of Greenville (signed in Greenville in August, 1795) and Lowell Thomas.

The society seeks a visionary leader to take it into the next phase of its growth. Enhancing the society's partnerships and ties with the community, improving the level of its programs and exhibits, advancing its fund-raising efforts and intensifying its scholarly work will be important.

The director report to the board of directors and will be responsible for all day-to-day operations of the society. The director will be one of the chief spokesmen for the society and will provide leadership in strategic planning, collections, programming, fund raising and marketing.

Qualified candidates must possess a MA in history, museum studies, or other relevant discipline, and three to five years of management experience. Grant writing and fund raising experience is strongly suggested as well as proven ability in financial management, staff supervision, excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer skills, and the ability to develop and sustain positive, productive relationships with individuals, govering bodies, constiuents and other agencies.

Salary is commensurate with skills and experience.
