I was born in Richmond, Wayne Co., IN, but was raised in Greenville, Darke Co., OH. We resided on East Main St., Hart Ave., North Main St., and Central Ave. I know we resided elsewhere in Greenville, such as in the little white cabins behind the old A & W Rootbeer Stand on Rt. 49, but I don't remember the exact addresses.
I attended East Elementary School from Kindergarten with Mrs. Johnson as my teacher, through the second grade, when Mrs. Salzman was the teacher. I still have our class picture taken for school year 1962-63. Mrs. Studebaker had been my first grade teacher.
In 1963 we moved to Arcanum and I attended the third grade there. Mrs. Sodders was my teacher then.
After that school year, we returned to Greenville where I attended North Elementary School for grades 4, 5, and 6. Teachers then were in order of grade: Mrs. Beatty, Mrs. Heath, and Miss Cochran. After that, I attended 7th-9th grade at the old Greenville Jr. High School and graduated from Greenville Senior High School in 1973.
I worked at what at the time was "Burger Chef" on Rt. 49 during my high school years and after graduation, moved to Urbana, Champaign Co., OH.
During most of my childhood, I attended a church my grandfather, Earl Monroe Sparks, and his congregation built, called at that time the Apostolic Pentecostal Church, on Jackson St.
His daughter, Sheila Marie (Sparks) Statler is my mother. She worked at Fram Filters at one time, then she worked at Hardy's Mfg. in Union City, IN.
She was married to Eugene Clayton Statler, Jr., who worked at and retired from Corning Glass Works in Greenville.
It was in Urbana that I met and married Michael Lynn Shuler. We had a daughter in 1974, and two years later we divorced.
Later that year, I was reunited with Randy Joseph Bailey, whom I had dated in my senior year in Greenville. We also had worked together at Burger Chef for a year. After his graduation in 1974, he'd gone into the U. S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California, but came home on emergency family leave. We dated while he was home and later married.
We lived in Penasquitos, San Diego Co, CA. and had three children, one of which died. We divorced many years later, but remain very close friends.
Our children are adults now and all living in different states. My oldest daughter, who has given us two grandchildren, now lives in New Mexico and works in the medical field.
Our next oldest daughter lives near Randy in Ohio, attends college and works in the airline industry.
Our son, who recently married, lives in Oklahoma, where I now reside, as well. He's in the Army Reserves, and is making me a grandma again next year. *smile*
