Corrected obituary, all the obituaries in the papers had multiple mistakes.
Nora Jean Byrd
Nora Jean Byrd, 75, of 2090 N. State Route 48, Pleasant Hill, died at 12:57 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2002 at UVMC in Troy.
She was born Aug. 29, 1926 in Pleasant Hill to the late Sam and Pearl (Oakes) West. She married Roger J. Byrd on June 24, 1950, who preceded her in death in 1991.
She was a 1944 graduate of Newton School and 1948 graduate of Manchester College, Manchester, Ind., retired in 1984 from Arcanum Butler school system, taught home economics and physical education at Arcanum school. She also cooked for the Lions Club in Arcanum. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren, member of the Brethern's Women's Fellowship and the Who class at the church, was a volunteer at he Greenville Brethren Home, and was a member of the Pleasant Hill VFW Auxiliary Post 6557.
Survivors include children, Carl "Lanny" and Nancy Byrd of Katy, Tex.; Tim and Kris (Heintz) Byrd of Pleasant Hill; Anita and James Horne of Union City, Ind.; Betty and Wayne Nichols of Bradford; grandchildren, Michelle Foust, Tia Schwabenland, Michael Byrd, Katrina Byrd, Sam Byrd, Jimmie Horne, Jamie Horne, Daniel Nichols, Carrie Jean Nichols, Brian Nichols and Ethan Nichols; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, John and Kathryn West of Covington, Ken and Carol West of Goshen, Ind., Jim and Sue West of Fletcher; and a sister-inlaw, Doris West of Goodfield, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Ellen West and a brother, Robert West.
Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at he Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethern, Pleasant Hill.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethern with Pastor Nick Beam officiating.
Interment will be in Abbottsville Cemetery, Arcanum.
VFW Auxiliary services will also be held at the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethern.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethern or the Pleasant Hill Rescure Squad. Condolences may also be expressed through www.jacksonfuneralhomes.com
Jackson Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill is in charge of the arrangements.
