Joseph Lawrence was born near Mount Rock, Adams county, Pa., Feb. 5,1821. He came to Ohio when eighteen years of age, and spent most of his life in this state. He was united in marriage to Maria Shaffer in 1848. To them were born eight children, five of whom survive - four daughters and one son.

Mr. Lawrence was a good friend, and to know "Uncle Joe," as he was called, was to esteem him. He was an excellent citizen, devoted husband and indulgent father. He was converted to the Christian religion last winter and in his last hours spoke of being perfectly satisfied with his spiritual condition.

After a lingering illness he died July 17, aged 83 years, five months and fifteen days. Besides his aged widow, five children, fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild mourn his death. Of his father's family of fifteen children, only one sister survives. She lives in Pennsylvania. Notice of the funeral, held July 19, was in last week's Union.

NOTE: My maternal Grandfather's grandfather. His son, Joseph C. Lawrence married Sallie Beane of the Beane family that lived in Painter Creek. (Still does have the original family farm, by the way)
