Alexander, Magdaline Philip Wallace

Posted By: Mickey Raymer
Date: 20 November 2001

SOURCE: This obit was written by my paternal Grandmother on the death of her mother, Magdaline Philip Wallace.

"Life is dear to us. Home and friends bring us happiness. As the years go by the ties of life strengthen. Our friends and home make this life have its worth. E'er we scarcely realize home is broken, a loved one has gone and we are left to bear our grief as best we can.

Thus the home of John Alexander has been broken. The Great Messenger called for Mrs. Magdaline P. Wallace Alexander, Monday morning Jan. 16, 1928 and she left the earthly home for that bright home above, She was born near Edinburgh, Scotland, Sept. 17, 1862. In early childhood she was baptized in the Scotch Prebyterian Church. At the age of four years, she emigrated with her parents to America and located in Indianapolis, Ind. Later the family moved to Belleville, Ill.

On June 3, 1885, she was united in marriage to John Alexander at Belleville, Ill. Two daughers ad six sons blessed this union. One son John departed this life five years ago which was the first great sorrow to come in the home.

After about eleven years residence in Illinois the family came to Versailles, Darke Co., Ohio. In March of 1898 they moved to the old home farm which has been home to the family ever since. A place which is dear to all of them. About nine years ago Mother Alexander transferred her membership from the Presbyterian Church to the Christian Church at Dawn, Ohio where whe remained a member until the grim Messenger called her home.

She was a good and loving wife and mother and a good neighbor to all. She leaves the sorowing husband, two daughters, Mrs. Leonard York of Versailles and Mrs. Walter Armstrong of Ansonia, Ohio; five sons, William and Earl of Ansonia; Albert, Roy and Eddie of Dayton, Ohio. Two sisters, Isabel Hopwood or Birmingham, Ala. and Maggie Barnhart of Indianapolis, Ind. Three brothers, John Wallace of Chelsea, Mich., James Wallace of Hoistington, Kans. and William Wallace of Dayton, Ohio. Ten grand-children and a large number of relatives and friends.

What shall I find at the end of the road,
When I've said my last good-bye.
When I hear from far off the Silent Call-
The Call to souls who die.
What shall I find at the end of the road,
When the last long mile I've trod.
Find? - I shall find all I have prized on earth;
Home, friends and God,
When I have crossed the bar.
