GILBERT, BENJAMIN

Died at home three miles west of Versailles, Dec. 17, 1891, aged 79 years, 3 months 27 days. First settler. Services - Versailles M. E. Church, officiating - Rev. Culp, interment - Green Lawn Cemetery, undertaker - Leonard Marker.

Benjamin Gilbert, died Wednesday Dec 6, 1891

OBIT
Benjamin Gilbert was among the earliest settlers of Darke Co. locating in Richland Township in 1838, and followed the occupation of farming till late years, when he retired from active work. He departed this life Wednesday morning, Dec. 16 1891 after suffering intensely for two weeks from some disease unknown to the writer. The funeral was held at M.E. church, Versailles, Friday afternoon. Dec 18 and was largely attended. This indicated how highly Grandfather Gilbert was esteemed as a good and honorable citizen.
