Obituary
Mary Wolfal (nee Kurtz) one of the oldest pioneers of Darke county and who lived for nearly sixty years at her home in Hollansburg, died at the home of her son John Wolfal, near New Madison, March 30, 1910, aged 85 years, 8 months and 28 days. She was born in Germany July 2, 1824, and at the age of 28, came to America and landed in New York, and soon after went to Pennsylvania, where she was married to John Adam Wolfal March 3, 1853. Five years later they emigrated to Darke county, Ohio, locating near what is now known as Clark's Station. She was the mother of 8 children, two of which, together with her husband, preceded her in death.She had been in poor health for several years, and was unable to walk without assistance. She was a member of the German Reformed church, and was a noble Christian mother. The funeral services were held from the Christian church at Hollansburg Thursday, March 31, at 2 p.m. Sermon on the occasion by Rev. C.W. Hoeffer of Richmond, Ind. She is survived by two brothers, one in Massachusetts, the other in Repburg, Germany; one daughter, 5 sons, 16 grandchildren and many other relatvies and friends to mourn her departure.
The remains were inteared in the Hollansburg cemetery.

Minnie McGriff was called to the home of John Wolfal west of Hamburg Wednesday to care for the remains of Mary Wolfal, the mother of Mr. Wolfal. The remains were taken to the home of Adam Wolfal near Oak Hill school house Wednesday eve and this Thursday afternoon the funeral was held at the Christian church at Hollansburg. Interment in cemetery there.
