OLD RESIDENT OF DARKE CO. IS DEAD
Mrs. Sarah Jane McLaughlin Beck An old Resident Of Darke County Died At Her Home At Elmwood, Nebraska, Last Saturday. Funeral At Elmwood.
A telegram was received by Mrs. Sophia Warvel of Greenville that her sister, Mrs. Sarah Jane McLaughlin Beck had died Feb. 14 at her home in Elmwood, Neb. Mrs. Beck was born August 29, 1837 near Beamsville and spent all her early life in Darke Co. She was a teacher in the Public Schools in Versailles and Ansonia and various places. She was married to William Harmond Beck of Indiana and they with their belongings left soon afterwards in covered wagons, there being no railroads at that time to homestead in Nebraska near weeping water. In later years they moved to Elmwood where the husband preceded her in death several years ago. She was the mother of 5 children, one dying in infancy. Those now living are Gertrude Dallas Dernier, William Harmond Beck, Richard Marion Beck, and Ola Hayes all living in Nebraska, one brother S. M. McLaughlin of West Carrollton, Ohio, and one sister, Sophia Warvel, Greenville, who mourn her departure. At the time of her death she was 87 years, 5 months, and 15 days of age. Mrs. Beck was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and led a devoted christian life. Burial at Elmwood, Nebraska, Tuesday afternoon Feb. 17 at 2 p. m.
