Sarah Elizabeth BUSHNELL, 101, 750 Chestnut St., Greenville, died at 9:47 p.m. March 9, 2002, at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville. She had been in failing health for several years.

Born July 13, 1900, in Greenville, she was the daughter of W.A. and Mary Elizabeth (MURRAY) BROWNE, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, Winifred (Westbrook) BROWNE; her first husband, Ralph V. BIRT, in 1955, her second husband, Raymond Bushnell in 1979; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Birt, brothers, William A. Browne III and Dr. Westbrook Browne, and sister, Gladys Hench.

Mrs. Bushnell was part owner of the Daily Advocate and secretary of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Greenville. Delta Theta Tau and the Criterion Club.

She is survived by her son, Richard Birt of Greenville, grandchildren, Richard and Betty Birt, Steven D. Birt, Kathryn and Kirk Flatter, rebecca and Mark Giesseman; and great-grandchildren, Betsy Birt, Matt Birt, Sarah Birt, Kirk Flatter, Rick Birt, III, Katie Flatter and Rachel Birt.

Services are planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, 114 E. Fourth St.Greenville, with the Rev. Dr. John Person officiating. Burial will be in the Greenville Cemetery.
Visitaion will be one-half hour prior to services Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, Greenville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choise. Zechar bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, is handling arrangements.
