Obituary - Elizabeth Rohr
(undated newpaper clipping)

Elizabeth Replogle was b. near Sharpsburg, then in Darke Co., OH Nov. 3, 1845. She was the eldest daughter of Jacob and Abigail Jones Replogle, who, with their parents were pioneers of their community.

When she was eight years old, her parents moved to the old Replogle homestead east of Rosehill.

On Sept. 8, 1861 she was united in marriage with William Rohr. After the birth of their first son, her husband volunteered for service in the Civil War. During his absence of more than three years she, with her young son, resided with her parents and taught school.

After his return in May 1865, they moved to a farm near the old homestead, where they took an active part in the pioneering and development of the religious and social life of their community.

Early in life she united with the United Brethren Church of Rosehill. During her time of residence in that community, she was a devoted member of that church, and reared her family in that faith.

Eleven children were born to them, two of whom have preceded her to their heavenly home. the surviving children are: Jacob E. Rohr, Mrs. Frank Hermance, Mrs. S. C. Hermann, Will H. Rohr, Mrs. C. C. Hall, Mrs. Harvey Rofelty, Lewis Rohr, Mrs. William Green, and Miss Martha E. Rohr.

Besides these, five sisters and four brothers, seventeen grand-children, twenty-three great-grandchildren, her son-in-law and daughters-in-law and a host of other relatives mourn their great loss.

She passed to her reward at 11:00 P.M. on July 19, 1929.

The following verses were composed by her as a final tribute to one of her beloved friends. Her loved ones deem it a fitting tribute and expression of their love for her.

Our darling Mother is at rest,
For her, the cares of life are o’er.
Of earthly friends, the dearest, best,
We’ll see on earth no more, no more.

How, oft we’ll long the tones to hear,
Of that dear voice, which now is still.
And thoughts of her, we loved so dear
Will cause the tears our eyes to fill.

We know along life’s toilsome way
Her weary feet, no more will tread;
That Sorrow’s hand no more can lay
A burden on her heart or head.

Then sleep, sweet Mother. Rest and sleep,
So peaceful in thy narrow home,
For soon, no more to wake and weep,
Thy dear ones, all, to thee will come.
