According to one source on Ancestry.com there are (at least?) 5 variations on the family name coming from Powell DEAL. The best search I just ran was on Adam Dale. (I don't se a Diehl connection with Powell, but that is another variation found in Pennsylvania in the 1700s, so this is outside of my usual search).
I will provide a Link to the Miami Valley Database, below, so that you can determine where to find the source data (some census information for Darke county can be linked from this site).
The Miami Valey Database shows the following information

I am not sure why the WPA would be a source.
If Deal is the right name then, a move to Darke County from Miami took place after the 1835 census.
