This is the right John William Bashore. I have collected a fair amount of information on this Clinton County branch, including map locations of the original family properties; my problem is that I lose track of John W. in 1900 when he abandons his family. In 1903 his wife divorced him for abandonment. For the sake of completeness (and more than a fair share of curiosity) I am hoping to pick up his trail and find out what happened to him. One of the stories is that he was killed on his way to St. Louis, so there may not be much story after all. On the other hand, another theory has him getting all the way out to California and starting a family out there! This may be a puzzle never solved.
