Hello Kathy,
Thank you for your post answer to me re: Joseph Mills and wife Jane Stoten.
The only thing I have figured out on this Joseph Mills / Jane Stoten family is that they lived in Montgomery County, OH - not Darke Co. It was only Frazy and Martha (Mills) Doty that lived in Darke Co. At first I was confused about that fact.
I found some interesting information about Frazy and Martha(Mills) Doty on the GenCircles website, posted by descendants of Frazy and Martha. This information claims that: "Frazy Doty was and others were traveling through the area of Montgomery Co., where Joseph Mills had a homested and stayed a day or two to rest on Joseph Mills land. During this rest period, Frazy Doty witnessed Joseph Mills's daughter, Martha Mills, being mistreated by her step-mother, while father Joseph, did nothing to stop it. Frazy then asked Martha - 'that if she was tired of being mistreated, she should make up her mind to leave with him, they would marry and she would never be mistreated by anyone again'. Martha took Frazy at his word and left with him and they were married as soon as they could find a place in Montgomery Co. where they could get a marriage license. Frazy and Martha (Mills) Doty then moved on to settle near Ithaca in Darke County until after the Civil War was over. "
Have you heard this family story??
Anyway, I am trying to learn if my personal Montgomery Co., OH Mills line connects to this Joseph Mills, the father of Martha (Mills) Doty. Therefore, I am looking for a list of children for this Joseph Mills, who perhaps had two wives, if above story is true. There was more info on GenCircles. If you have not yet seen it, contact me.
