This material is taken from an article in the Greenville Alumni Ass. newsletter. The article was wrote by Bill Booker (of Class of 53) For many years the team was called the " Big Green". In Nov of 1933 it was decide have a contest for a name.Over a couple of weeks a large number of names were send in for the name . 126 people send in the name Green Wave. From that batch of names, a drawing was held and one submitter name was pulled from the hat Robert Smith a freshman at the high school. He recived a two ticket to the next football.
The Greenie Emblem first appeared in 1964. Mr. Tony Dirocco is considered the father of Greenie.Mr. DiRicco animated emblem symbolizing the the spirnt of GHS.
